Getting back into the groove of school is difficult after a short winter break. Spring semester always seems to be the most difficult time for me to pay attention and stay focused. So, I have created a list of helpful hints that could help not only me but any other struggling college student.
Get a new planner and write down your schedule and due dates for the entire semester. Most the time students are taking more than one class. Doing this will help you remember everything you have going on during this hectic time. Keeping a planner with all dates in one place makes it easier to find out when things are coming up and it helps you plan when to study.
Start school work as early as possible. If you get a head start, then even when you get a little behind you will still be on time. Waiting till the last minute to do school work or study is a recipe for high stress levels. Also, when doing things early you always have time to go back and check for mistakes.
Get yourself on a workout schedule. In the past, I have noticed that if I am working out throughout the semester, then I tend to do better in school. Some studies have shown that working out at least three times a week can help reduce stress. Staying active boosts energy levels which in turn help you have more brain power to complete tasks such as school work.
Get on a regular sleep schedule. Sleep is by far the most important. Being tired affects work ethic and concentration levels. I know I’m more likely to skip class if I did not get a good night’s rest. Plan your days out by giving yourself a bedtime. And never cram by staying up all.
Plan social events in advance. You need to work hard and play hard in order to be happy. Stay social and plan activities that won't get in the way of your school schedule. This will help you not skip class because you stayed out all night with friends. Do not plan to have drinks with friends when you have things to do.
College is hard and tuition is not cheap! Retaking courses is something students should want to avoid. Planning ahead and working smarter and not harder is key to getting yourself on the road to graduation.
